Mid year assessment in the honors option

Saturday, December 15, 2007

With the semester winding down, it's time for students enrolled in the honors option to begin the process of reflecting on their work so far this year. The first part of that involves a reflective essay which is due Dec. 20.

Then, in January, students are required to submit a mid-year portfolio to their English 10 teachers. The portfolio will be used to assess whether students are satisfying the honors-level expectations. Details on the reflective essay and portfolio can be found here.

In addition to the portfolio, honors students will take an additional SAT-type vocabulary exam administered during the regular exam period. Students should have the list of 55 words and should be studying them on a regular basis each night in order to be ready for the exam.

Students or parents can get more details from their English 10 teachers.

Welcome to the new blog designed for the English 10 honors option at Branford High School. If you are reading this, then most likely you are interested in the honors option offered at Branford High School for students enrolled in English 10.

We hope this blog will provide some valuable information about the program. It is designed as a place to find information about assignments, resources for class, and other news related to the honors option. Both students and their parents can expect to find regularly updated information from the English 10 teachers. It will also offer a forum for readers, and we invite you to leave a comment. Ask a question. Make an observation or suggestion.

In addition to this blog, another valuable resource is the honors option wiki page, which contains more detailed descriptions and curriculum resources related to the honors option. You can access that site here.
